This weekend my mood is good. I received several good news this week.
After feeling a roller coaster back time, I am now quite confident I've made the right decision.
Anyway, have you ever been so immersed in an activity that you lost track of time and everything else around you? This is what is known as a state of flow.
It's a mental state where you're completely focused and energized, feeling like you're in control and fully engaged.
Achieving this state can help you be more productive, and creative, and feel more fulfilled.
I believe some of you already know this concept. But maybe some of you are still having a hard time getting into the zone.
As a person who easy to gets distracted, I understand entering the flow state is sometimes challenging.
Here are 4 personal reasons why I failed to enter the flow zone
1—You are not taking care of the essentials
Get enough sleep, eat well (don’t be too full because it makes you sleepy), urinate, dress comfortably, and make sure you already have enough sleep.
Your body is smart enough whenever something is wrong from within. That’s why she trying to give you a signal that might distract you from work.
2—You forget small stuff that matters
Here are basic checklist I should bring to the table
Charger devices
Full drinking bottle
Sweets snacks (optional)
Smooth Internet connection
If one of them disappears, my state of flow is quite messed up.
It left me stuck with lots of distractions and I failed to get into the zone that needed time.
3—The environment doesn’t give you comfortable
Tables and rooms that are dirty and smelly will make me uncomfortable.
Take 5 minutes for a quick clean-up.
For me, the temperature is also quite influential. I can't concentrate if it's too hot or cold. So make sure you also set the right temperature for yourself.
Also, try to control the noise. You can choose cancel-noise headphones and stay in absolutely quiet places.
Make sure you are safe where you are now with no one to distract you.
4—Lack of skill and knowledge
Flow is a constantly evolving and dynamic state, which is why it's important to match your skill level with the challenges you face.
Mihaly Csíkszentmihályi, the originator of the flow state, represents the chat below.
To maintain the flow zone area, we need to balance skills and challenges levels. Because the state of flow is between the anxiety and boredom zones as follows
But the point is you need the practice to get used to entering the state of flow.
Because the state of flow consumes a lot of energy, you can warm up beforehand. Like exercise, take a shower, and have breakfast.
After that you can reward yourself for cooling down through social media scrolling, chat replies, etc. Don't forget to adjust the time, especially for those of you who want to enter the zone more than once a day.
There are times when the state of flow cannot be forced. That's okay you can work with more light. But if you're urgent you should move places.
